Connection profile

Regarding this piece of zhuanghua (patterns woven with colorful threads) silk work, there are cloud-dragon patterns woven on the tawny silk, depicting that a dragon is flying from the heaven, raising high its head and stretching out its claws, looking ferocious and mighty. The dragon is surrounded by Ru-yi clouds, symbolizing auspiciousness. Golden flake-shaped threads are used to weave the contour of the designs, which is commonly known as “outlining with golden threads”. It is to integrate the golden and silvery threads with the patterns to look more dignified and graceful. “Zhuanghua” is the most complicated but representative silk weaving jacquard. The technique of jacquard weaving with wooden loom is still in use rather than replaced by modern machines. It is made of twisted silk fabrics with clear grains on the surface, making the decorative patterns more stroking. The inscription of this piece of silk fabrics reads “Zhengyuanxing Benduan”, and Zhengyuanxing is the name of the silk shop.
