Exhibition Profile

As a world-class architect, Swiss architect Mario Botta has been known for the detached houses he designed in Ticino. The buildings he designed involve the types of school, bank, administrative building, library, museum and religious building, and the number of his architectural design projects is marvelous. The venue which hosts the exhibition is exactly one paragon of Botta’s architecture.

This exhibition focuses on part of the architectural and design works of Mario Botta between 1960 and 2017 which centrally feature  his architectural idea. The sections as “Living Spaces”, “Work Spaces”, “Schools and Free Time Spaces”, “Wineries”, “Urban Fabric”, “Libraries”, “Museums”, “Theaters”and “Sacred Spaces”manifest the simple, clear, powerful and connotative  architectural language of Mario Botta as well as his focus on the integration of architecture and the surrounding environment. The section “Design” displays other design objects of the architect such as chairs, furniture, lamps, watches and so on. These objects could be seen as another representation of the architectural idea of Botta. The whole exhibition, full of humanity and ideality, perfectly and systematically shows the architect’s rigorous rationalist tradition, rich cultural deposits and contemporary architectural language with rich characteristics of the times.
