Exhibition Profile

Qiu Ting is usually recognized as a staunch follower who stick to “tradition”. On his graduation from college, he has copied a celebrated painting, Landscape of Bianshan Mountain (Wang Meng), presenting his stunning technique and accumulation of the profound cultural tradition. He became one of the most representative artists who is skilful in ink and wash painting with exquisite brushwork and amazing shade. As a result, his reputation has been bound up in fetters of “tradition”, which conceals his major breakthrough in blazing new trails of “tradition”, as well as his artistic sensitivity in modern visual context. “Blazing A Brilliant Trail — Qiu Ting Art Exhibition” was attempting to present that an artist with seeming traditional expression has been seeking for an integration of “tradition” and “modern” as a satisfactory way forward in this globalized world. His representative ink and wash painting from nature, the interaction with contemporary photography, the brushwork that blends musical expression as well as the landscape map involved with visual perception, definitely will be a terrific visual reference for our reflections on the entanglement between “tradition” and “modern”.

Artist Profile

Qiu Ting was born in Guangdong Province in 1971. He has completed his bachelor's degree and master's degree in Chinese traditional painting in China Academy of Art during 1992 to 2000, as well as a doctorate under the tutorship of Zhang Ding in Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in 2004. He has been working in the Department of Chinese Traditional Painting of Central Academy of Fine Arts since 2004 up to now. At present he holds the position of professor in Central Academy of Fine Arts and vice dean of the Department of Chinese Traditional Painting and Calligraphy. As an immensely distinguished and representative ink and wash artist, he attaches great importance particularly to blaze a new trail of “tradition” through the interaction and entanglement with different cultures.
