The museum houses more than thirteen thousands collections of six broad categories which are painting and calligraphy, porcelain, embroidery, furniture, bronze and comprehensive art works. The majority of them originated in the collections of Academy of Arts & Design since 1956 and donations from alumni and prominent people. 

Among those collections, over 1,400 packages are of painting and calligraphy category which span a time from Yuan Dynasty to modern times, including the original works of renowned painters such as Wen Zhenming, Lu Ji, Lan Ying, Chen Hongshou, Wang Yuanqi, Wang Duo, Hua Yan, Zheng Banqiao, Luo Pin, Ren Bonian, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi and Xu Beihong; over 4,600 packages are of embroidery category which span a time from Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty to modern times, made through such techniques as brocade, Zhangzhou velvet, Zhuanghua Silk, k'o-ssu; over 2,700 packages are of ceramics category, covering a long period from the Neolithic Age to modern times. There area wide range types of porcelain in this category, including red pottery, grey pottery, colored pottery, black pottery, proto-porcelain, celadon and colorful vitreous enamel and painted China. The furniture category consists of over 140 packages, from Ming Dynasty to modern times. They are primarily the categories of desks, chairs and cabinets. A small number of them are of bed around and box categories. There are over 180 pieces of collections of bronze mirror which were donated by alumnus Mr.Wang Ganghuai. 

Moreover, there are some other art works of painting and calligraphy, bronze, oracle bones, bamboo slips and textile garments scattered in the library, archive, and history museum of the university and relevant departments and schools, such as the schools of humanities and architecture, with a total number of approximately 8,000 packages.
