Exhibition Profile

“Untold Implications - Feng Yuan Art Exhibition” is the most systematic and complete retrospect of his art life, which includes 188  pieces of artworks over a span of 40 years. Feng Yuan’s work constantly focuses on the multiple relationships between human and history, human and society, human and art, as well as human and spirit. His figure painting works not only present the history of the Chinese figures, but also present the development of Chinese culture and spirit, from which we could catch a glimpse of his footprints and inner journey on the path of exploration and practice of Chinese portraiture’s new expression and forms. 

Artist Profile

Feng Yuan, painter, professor, civil servant, cultural scholar.

 
He was born in Shanghai in 1952.
 
He started studying the postgraduate course of traditional Chinese painting in Zhejiang Academy of Art in 1978 under the tutorship of Fang Zengxian, and graduated in 1980.
 
Since 1996, he successively served as Vice President of China Academy of Fine Arts, Director of Education and Technology Department and then Director of Art Department of Ministry of Culture, P.R.C., Director of the National Art Museum of China, Vice President, member of the Party Leadership Group and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
 
His works have been selected into almost all major art exhibitions in China, and he has won excellent awards for more than 10 times. He has written and published more than 1.5 million words of papers, reviews and teaching materials, as well as more than 10 kinds of catalogs. A large number of his works have been exhibited in Europe, the US and other countries. In addition, he has been to many countries to give lecture or for a teaching visit. His works have been collected in many art galleries and museums both at home and abroad.
