In the first half of the 20th century, Shanghai was the first city to become internationalized, where most modern Chinese artists and schools emerged. While the reform and opening up in the 1980s ignited the city's spirit of openness, one of the most remarkable trends in the field of art was the city’s development of abstract art, which, compared to other art styles, seemed to be more expressive of the “unisex” nature of urban culture. By exhibiting the works of four artists, Ding She,Li Lei,Yang Dongbai, and Pan Wei, this exhibition demonstrates the artists’ unique understanding and innovative practice of abstract art. Viewers are sure to obtain new viewing experiences from their works.
