Collection research is an important part of art research. In history, prominent art collectors and patrons, such as the Medici family in Italy and the Guggenheim family in New York, have all made significant contributions to the development of local art scene.

The identification, collection and sorting by collectors contribute to the writing of art history and constitute the context of art history and social history.

The history of reform and opening up is the history on the gradual integration of contemporary Chinese culture into the global stage. During the course, the globalization of contemporary Chinese art is a key phenomenon that cannot be ignored, and a vital part of the history of Chinese contemporary art.

Xin Dong Cheng, founder of Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art, is one of the first generation of contemporary art gallerists and collectors under the background of globalization. In the past thirty years, he has introduced many leading contemporary Chinese artists to the world through exhibitions, and also introduced international contemporary artists to China. His efforts in exhibition promotion and art collection have played significant roles in the globalization of contemporary Chinese art, and provided a vivid expression of this period of history.

This exhibition selects more than one hundred pieces from Cheng’s collection, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations, and videos, from more than ten countries, in order to present the rich features of contemporary art, and provide a specific perspective for the study of contemporary Chinese art.
