THE REALM OF IDEALISM: Mario Botta Architecture and Design 1960-2017 Opening at Tsinghua University

       On September 15th 2017, the opening ceremony of THE REALM OF IDEALISM: Mario Botta Architecture and Design 1960-2017 was held at the Entrance Hall of Tsinghua University Art Museum. As one of the most outstanding architects in the world, Mario Botta, the Swiss crafter of space, was most famous for the single-family houses he designed in Tacino, Switzerland. So far, Botta has accomplished a huge array of architectural design projects covering various types of buildings such as schools, banks, administrative buildings, libraries, museums and churches. Two of Tsinghua University’s landmark buildings, the Humanities and Social Sciences Library and the Tsinghua University Art Museum, are right designed by Mario Botta. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
       As a world-class architect, Mario Botta filled his works with humanity and ideality, while accuracy, harmony and balance have become the most notable features of his designs. In this exhibition, Botta’s concise and powerful style as well as the rich connotative meaning behind it, could all be discovered in Sections as ‘Living Space’ or ‘Working Space’, ‘Public Building’ or ‘Place of Worship’.
 
 
 
 
 
  
       The exhibition is Mario Botta’s first personal architectural art retrospective exhibition held in mainland China. An important part of Botta’s architectural designs and works from 1960 to 2017 will be put on display. Opening from September 16th 2017 to January 31st 2018, the exhibition will benefit faculties and students in Tsinghua as well as the general public with a precious opportunity to have a close-up view of masterpieces by a world-class architect. At the meantime, the exhibition will also promote cultural exchange between scholars and architects at home and abroad, accelerating the development of the field of architectural design.
